Cremini Mushroom - the February Vegetable of the Month

This month we’re going to explore the Cremini Mushroom, or more widely recognized as the Baby Bella Mushroom. They’re immature Portobello mushrooms that can be used raw or cooked. They tend to have a heartier flavor than white mushrooms.

Baby Bella Mushrooms are available all year round but when buying in store we recommended choosing firm, wellshaped caps that don’t have any dark spots or slime. You will also want to AVOID broken or shriveled caps.

When storing it’s recommended to place then in a paper bag inside the refrigerator. They will be good for up to 7 days in that condition.

When prepping them to cook it’s better to clean them of dirt just before using with a damp paper towel or rinsing them under cold running water. Be sure to let them dry on paper towels before using.

Baby Bella Mushrooms are a great addition to salads, kabobs, stir-fries, sauces, or as toppings. Feel free to add it to any of the recipes you see fit! Mushrooms in general are a great addition to any meal because they’re good for the body. They’re low in calories, no fat, no sodium, and are filled with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can help prevent disease.
